Admission process of Shabiprabir is not starting suddenly

The admission process of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SHUST) is not starting immediately. This uncertainty has arisen as the VC issue has not been addressed and most of the members of the admission committee have been affected by the Corona. Admitted students are angry at such stagnation of the admission process.

Shahjalal University of Science and Technology started its first-year admission process on January 4, 2020-2021. Those who have passed the first merit list are admitted step by step till January 11. But it did not end on time as there were not enough students for admission. The committee suspended the admission process indefinitely on January 22 due to the latest anti-VC movement.

At the end of the first merit list, it is seen that only 25.6 percent of students have been admitted to the university. Seats are vacant at 64.22 percent. Later, the admission process for the second merit list started on January 18. According to the latest information, there are 1,018 vacancies in the university.

The anti-VC movement turned into a movement on January 13 to demand the resignation of the provost body at Sirajunnesa Hall. To quell the movement, the administration declared the university closed indefinitely. The students took a stand in front of the VC’s residence, rejecting the administration’s decision. However, the admission process was still going on. The agitators also did not obstruct the admission process. Later on January 22, the admission committee suspended the admission process indefinitely.

Although the situation in the university is somewhat normal, the admission process is not starting now. The admission committee is also unable to take any decision as the VC issue has not been resolved. At the same time, many members of the committee are affected by Corona. The convener of the committee, Professor. Mushtaq is also physically ill. Due to this, the committee is not able to sit in any meeting. As a result, the admission process is not starting at the university. Admission is uncertain. Many students have expressed their displeasure.

Classes have also started after admission to other universities. And we haven’t been admitted yet. Besides, stagnation has been created due to the movement. No one at the university has made it clear when this stalemate will end. Secretary of the admission committee Chowdhury Abdullah Al Hossaini said, “We will meet the members of the committee very soon and take a decision in this regard.”
