There is a new public university with research facilities
The government has taken initiative to set up a flagship university to increase research facilities in the country. The Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) is preparing a concept paper for setting up the new public university.
UGC member Prof. The decision was taken at the first meeting of the concept paper preparation committee formed for the establishment of flagship university under the chairmanship of Biswajit Chand on Monday (January 31).

A world class flagship university will be established in the country as part of the implementation of the five year term priority activities of ‘Strategic Plan for Higher Education in Bangladesh: 2018-2030’ to improve the quality of higher education and ensure transparency and accountability in the country. Postgraduate and doctoral degrees will be awarded from the flagship university and various research facilities will be created.
At the meeting, Professor Biswajit Chand said that UGC has formed a committee to prepare a concept paper for the establishment of flagship university. The committee will submit a written opinion on the concept of flagship university to the commission within this month. The UGC will ensure that the flagship university can make a positive contribution to the country’s higher education, research and innovation and sustainable development goals and implementation of the Delta Plan.
He added that the commission would formulate a policy framework for the establishment of flagship universities. Professor Biswajit Chand said that there is no alternative to fruitful research in higher education.
