The total number of admissions at the Maulana Bhasani University of Science and Technology (Mavabiprabi) has reached 632 at the end of admission in the latest 12th merit list. Last Thursday (March 10), 178 out of 810 seats in 16 departments of the university remained vacant even after admissions through online mode.
The departments that are vacant are the TE department, CPS division, ESRM department, FTNS department, statistics department, mathematics department, department of economics, department of accountancy, department of management. In all these sections, seats are vacant only for science units. As so many seats are vacant, the concerned authorities are yet to decide the date for the start of classes for the newcomers.
However, in order to fill these vacant seats, the mavabiprabi authorities have issued a notice on the official website of the university directing the students of the science unit to apply online. Students in the 2239 to 4556 merit category who appeared in the interview to fill up the vacant seats in the Faculty of Engineering will be directed to take admission on the basis of online application.
Similarly, 3450 to 8000 students in the Faculty of Life Sciences, 4557 to 8000 in the Faculty of Science, 4117 to 8000 in the Faculty of Social Sciences, 4110 to 8000 in the Faculty of Business Studies will be given instructions for final admission on the basis of online applications. The online application will continue till 12 noon on March 12. However, even if the seats are filled only through the online admission process without submitting the original certificate in person, questions have also been raised about the number of students who will be admitted online in Mavaviprabi at the time of commencement of classes. In this case, there is a fear of a large number of seats remaining vacant even after the start of classes.
However, if such a situation arises, the university administration has said that the seats will be filled again with the instructions of mass application. Dr. Md Mahbubul Haque, head of the admission committee and dean professor of the Faculty of Life Sciences, said that if the seats are filled in the next week, classes for young people will start between March 20 and 25 and after the admission of mass applications, the quota students will be admitted.
