The college was named after Hazrat Shahdaula (may Allah have mercy on him) from Baghdad, Iraq, for the purpose of propagating the Salam religion. On March 7, 1972, the then M.P. Alauddin Bagha inaugurated the first class of the college by cutting the ribbon in the madrasa.
There, principal Tafir Uddin along with the chairman of the then No. 1 Bajubagha Union Council, Harun or-Rashid Sarkar, Nurul Huda Sarkar, Khurshed Ali Minza (Commerce), Nazir Uddin (Political Science) on March 21, Bhavesh Pandey were appointed as lecturers in the Department of History on March 23. At that time, teachers were given an honorarium of Rs 100 each. [1] Later, prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s promise to make one government college in every upazila was nationalized from Shahdaula Degree College to Shahdaula Government College.
The college is established on an area of 15 bighas. The college has 2 institutional buildings, 1 library, 1 garage, 1 playground. At present, the number of teachers is 75. Of these, there are 13 employees. The number of students is about 2,641.
