Patuakhali Government Women’s College
In 1956, by-elections were held for one seat in Bhola and two seats in Pirojpur. Hossain Shahid Suhrawardy held public meetings in Barisal, Pirojpur and Bhola. Following the demands of the local MLAs and leaders, she pledged to establish one college each in Pirojpur, Patuakhali and Bhola and a women’s college in Barisal. In an attempt to fulfill this commitment, the organizing committee of Patuakhali College was formed in 1956. Patuakhali College started its journey on June 5, 1957. The first function of The Patuakhali College began at the place of the present Patuakhali Government Women’s College in the city. A women’s college was not established. The Women’s College was established in 1966.
